Rural schools that serve the villages suffer a similar fate of poor access to potable water, they are relying on contaminated riverine water with mercury, high levels of turbidity effects of gold mining, logging and absence of proper sanitation facilities, forcing school children to utilize these water sources. The Rooms Katholiek Bijzonder Onderwijs Foundation, that manages 76 primary and secondary schools in Suriname, many of them in the Hinterland of Suriname serving isolated villages, is desirous of seeking support to establish rainwater harvesting systems in 3 of its primary schools.
Objetivo General:
- Increase access to potable drinking water for three (3) primary schools located along the Upper Suriname River in the Hinterland of Suriname. - Enhance adequate storage facility for potable drinking water.
Objetivos Específicos:
  1. To install a low-cost PVC rainwater harvesting system for three (3) primary schools in the District of Sipaliwini
