This project aims to encourage the adoption of sustainable farming practices among small farmers in the Langley Park farming community on St. Vincent. By promoting and supporting the use of mechanical weed control methods and composting, we seek to improve soil health and farm productivity.
Objetivo General:
To support the adoption of circular strategies in vegetable production by the use of mechanical weed control methods and the use of farm waste for composting as part of an overall strategy for soil amelioration and to improve productivity on 30 small farms.
Objetivos Específicos:
  1. To procure small equipment and tools for use by farmers to engage in mechanical weed control and composting operations.
  2. To train a cadre of fifteen small farmers in the safe use of small equipment on farms.
  3. To train a cadre of fifteen farmers to compost farm waste for use in soil amelioration.
Resultados Esperados:
  1. Thirty farmers from two farmers’ cooperative have adopted new farming strategies and have reduced their use of herbicide for weed control and are actively engaging in composting activities to improve soil health and productivity.
