This project will be implemented with the established capabilities and support of the IICA Delegations in the LAC (Latin American and Caribbean) countries and also with the technical assistance of recognized experts and consultants in coordination with USDA/FAS (United States Department of Agriculture/ Foreign Agricultural Services) and USDA/APHIS (United States Department of Agriculture/ Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service). The project proposal considers the identification of needs and structural gaps in LAC countries, followed by tailor-made activities with the opportunity for learning by doing. The project will increase the countries' capacities in two main areas: initially, in communication and specifically in risk communication; subsequently, in prevention and control of ASF with special attention to emergency response plans for African Swine Fever.
Objetivo General:
To support Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) IICA Member States to enhance their capacities to prevent, detect, and control African Swine Fever (ASF) along with risk communication.
Objetivos Específicos:
  1. 1) Develop a comprehensive TCB program on ASF risk communication strategies focused on prevention based on risk.
  2. 2) Develop a comprehensive TCB on ASF prevention and emergency response, disease management, preparedness, and response plans, including developing and/or updating of national and regional emergency response plans.
  3. 3) Support the third multi-national Symposium on ASF hosted by APHIS on (date/time to be determined) at (location to be determined) in the USA.
  4. 1) Develop a virtual course on risk communication for all the Americas and the Caribbean.
  5. 2) Develop capacity to respond to and prevent African Swine Fever in the hemisphere through webinars and virtual courses.
  6. 3) Develop hemispheric capabilities through and a self-managed virtual course in the Incident Command System (ICS).
