Apiculture has a potential opportunity for socioeconomic and environmental development in the Caribbean Region through productivity enhancement, product diversification, generation of income, rural employment, and ecosystem services as well as food and nutrition security needs of the peoples of the CARIFORUM Region. Caribbean beekeepers have not been able to exploit all the investment opportunities available in the apiculture bioeconomy, as not only commercial commodity while other opportunities such as the use of local timber for hive construction, and the production of other differentiated products such as Propolis, wax, pollen and royal jelly are not considered for commercial development. Taking advantage of these opportunities, the project seeks to support the efforts of chain actors and the public sector institutions that support them, through: ? To produce knowledge-based products intended to identify the economic opportunities available in commercial beekeeping chain add value. ? To provide the capacity building support that would provide stakeholders with the requisite skillsets to exploit new opportunities. ? To support the participation of IICA in the regional beekeeping promoting the bioeconomic approach to development of the sector, through sharing and capitalizing of knowledge, stablishing a formal cooperative relationship with ACBO and resource mobilization in apiculture.
Objetivo General:
To strengthen the capacity of stakeholders in the Caribbean Region to unlock new investment opportunities for expansion and diversification of the apiculture sector utilising a bioeconomic framework.
