Descripción
The National Agricultural Census Pilot Project is an initiative to address a 30-year gap in agricultural data collection in The Bahamas. The Last agricultural census was conducted in 1994, leaving policymakers and stakeholders without current, reliable information to guide decision-making and sector development. This pilot project will be implemented in Eleuthera and Abaco as test sites before a potential national rollout.
Objetivo General:
To modernize agricultural data collection methodologies and build sustainable local capacity for future census activities, establishing a foundation for ongoing agricultural data management and analysis aligned with the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2025 (WCA 2025).
Objetivos Específicos:
  1. To design and test a new data collection instrument and to develop a prototype system to monitor collected data.
Resultados Esperados:
  1. Enhanced capacity of both the Bahamas National Statistical Institute and Ministry of Agriculture to conduct modern agricultural censuses, with increased technical competence among local staff and an improved institutional framework for integrating agricultural statistics into the National Statistical System.
  2. Transition from outdated manual processes to multi-channel digital data collection methods, improving data accuracy, comprehensiveness, and reliability while reducing time and resources required for agricultural data collection and processing.
  3. Enhanced availability of current agricultural data for policy formulation and resource allocation, providing officials with improved ability to identify priorities based on statistical evidence and strengthened capabilities to monitor agricultural sector performance.
  4. Shift from paper-based to digital information management for agricultural statistics, integrating geospatial data into planning and analysis while establishing sustainable digital infrastructure for ongoing agricultural data management.
  5. Validated approach for conducting a cost-effective national agricultural census with increased standardization and alignment with FAO's WCA 2025 international best practices, enhancing stakeholder engagement and participation in agricultural data collection.
