Food security is increasingly a matter of global concern. In the CARICOM region, there is a clear strategy to reduce food importation by 25% by 2025. In response to this concern, the European Union has invested funds to improve food production and the resilience of food systems. This investment aims to benefit the most vulnerable countries and groups in the Caribbean region by addressing the most pressing bottlenecks to achieve a sustainable solution to food and nutrition security. The strategy includes sustainable and climate-smart production processes for locally produced food, efficient and reliable regional distribution mechanisms, healthy consumption patterns, and resilient social protection structures.
Objetivo General:
To improve food processing capabilities, to increase regional distribution by addressing Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) barriers and solutions to intra-regional trade of agricultural and fisheries products, including on traceability and circular economy processes.
Objetivos Específicos:
  1. To enhance regulatory environment to improve enforcement and implementation of SPS controls.
  2. To improve efficiencies of competent authorities in the application of SPS controls
  3. To increase food safety compliance capability and capacity of competent authorities and industry stakeholders.
  4. To increase fisheries SPS compliance in the public and private sectors.
Resultados Esperados:
  1. Improved knowledge of SPS issues impacting intra-regional trade
  2. Increased understanding of the functioning of Food Safety Systems in Key Beneficiary Countries
  3. Improved knowledge of SPS bottlenecks impacting priority value chains and countries best placed to overcome these SPS compliance challenges.
