IICA and the National Bank of Dominica are collaborating on a school garden initiative aimed at enhancing food and nutrition security, promoting recycling and waste management, and integrating agriculture into various subjects. This project seeks to educate students on the importance of farming, food self-reliance, and sustainable farming practices by combining traditional knowledge with innovative land use techniques. Additionally, it aims to blend agriculture with arts and tourism to further integrate it into school activities and curricula.
Objetivo General:
To improve NBD's public image among stakeholders by implementing an ESG programme that focuses on sustainable food production, nutrition security, recycling, waste management, integrating agriculture into critical subjects, providing an enhanced standard of living, promoting soil health, and reducing the carbon footprint for a sustainable environment.
Objetivos Específicos:
  1. NBD Corporate image and IICA visibility improved among the agricultural communities
  2. The school community in Dominica has better knowledge on and access to agricultural innovation methods and technologies.
  3. Increase in self-reliance/food security in accessing food through functional school gardens in at least 3 selected schools and hands-on agricultural learning experiences.
  4. Promote environmental stewardship and good agriculture practices through incorporation of composting, recycling and waste management systems in.
  5. Promote water management through application of irrigation systems and retrofitted protected growing structures
  6. Integrate agriculture into critical subjects by organizing at least two art competitions and creating murals highlighting agrotourism and sustainability.
  7. Strengthen the capacity of 50 students on sustainable agriculture systems through 3 training sessions, field trips, and interactive dialogues to develop students’ knowledge of sustainable agricultural systems, supported by the distribution of reference manuals for continued learning.
Resultados Esperados:
  1. Develop the capabilities of sustainable agriculture practices in two primary and one secondary school.
