The challenges posed mainly by natural resources or Non-anthropogenic contamination of soils with cadmium in latin America and the Caribbean, have established the need to develop capacity and collect, proposed and develop best practices to mitigate the problems of cadmium contamination in cocoa, value chains in the LAC region may be better able to meet business requirements and the research community can be equipped with tools and strategies to support the cocoa industry. Furthermore, importing markets will also benefit from continued access to high-quality products. Fine aroma cocoa from LAC region, which is prized among the cocoa industry.
Objetivo General:
Contribute to improve capacity building and knowledge sharing to support management cadmium levels in Cocoa in Colombia, in coordination with other countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Objetivos Específicos:
  1. Support to Colombia in the coordination and exchange of information and efforts with LAC countries on best practices for mitigation and remediation of cadmium in cocoa.
  2. Strengthen and contribute to standardizing Colombia's technical capacity to analyza cadmium levels.
  3. Improve knowledge of the presence of cadmium in the cocoa-growing areas of the project countries through analysis and mapping.
  4. Raise awareness about cadmium problems among the actors of the cocoa value chain in Colombia
Resultados Esperados:
  1. The Ministries and National institutions related to cocoa in the countries of the project have a platform for consensus building and information sharing on best practices for cadmium mitigation and remediation.
  2. Ministries, research institutions, and other stakeholders in the countries improved knowledge of cadmium presence in cocoa-growing areas through analysis and mapping.
  3. The stakeholders in the cocoa supply chain are aware of cadmium issues and their impacts on the activity.
  4. The stakeholders of the project have coordination mechanisms that contribute to monitoring and evaluating the progress of the activities in the project.
