The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in Suriname focused its actions on climate resilience, improved production, and support for the agricultural sector. In the first instance, it generated training on impacts on climate change. In terms of productive improvement, he promoted the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) in different Indigenous communities to improve productivity. Finally, it provided two gardens for an orphanage to supply their daily food as well as an educational center for children (Villa Zapakara) where fresh vegetables are produced to educate children about the importance of agriculture, thanks to the collaboration of Suriname Agricultural Forum for Youth in (SURAFY).

IICA's purpose is to maintain the Institute's strategic position as the main international organization for agriculture and rural development in Suriname.
