Descripción
The Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) in Saint Lucia supported sustainable development, agricultural entrepreneurship, and the strengthening of the beekeeping sector. This was achieved by prioritizing cocoa as a key sector in Saint Lucia's agriculture, endorsing the country's identification as a supplier of fine flavored cocoa at the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) Ad hoc Panel meeting. In addition, it supported agricultural entrepreneurship by setting up an agro-processing facility and provided training to women in mushroom production. It also provided technical and logistical assistance for the X Caribbean Beekeeping Congress in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Association of Caribbean Beekeepers' Organizations (ACBO), Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program (GEF SGP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
Objetivo General:
IICA's purpose in Saint Lucia is to be a partner of choice that focuses on people for its professionalism and efficiency in the design, provision of resources and implementation of technical cooperation actions that have a transformative effect on the agricultural and rural sector.
